Bruce Mitchell—better known as the Alligator Man—rose to fame on the History Channel’s hit show Swamp People. In 2014, a visit to his home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, led to a conversation around his kitchen table with Bruce and his wife, Lorraine, about bringing a longtime dream to life: a cookbook that captured his love for cooking and the recipes he had been collecting over the years. The idea soon expanded to include personal family stories that offered an inside look at his adventures.

The cookbook’s visual direction drew inspiration from Bruce’s signature blue jean overalls, local photography, family travels, and his well-used cast iron skillet collection. Stylized line art of classic Southern foods, stamp textures, and typography echoing his stamped logo carried the aesthetic throughout. The opening pages were intentionally left with white space for personal notes and autographs, tying back to the handwritten title Bruce adds to each cover.

The final 40-page paperback features more than 20 Southern recipes, complemented by photography that highlights Bruce’s life and family memories. After the success of the first book, a second volume was created, this time centered on outdoor cooking. Today, Bruce remains active through outdoor store events, boat tours, social media appearances, and even Cameo.
